True to those Kentucky roots, Carter continues to pour all he has back into bluegrass. For thirty years, he has been the fiddle player for the Del McCoury Band—the most awarded group in bluegrass history. He’s won three Grammy awards, including 2018’s “Best Bluegrass Album” with the Travelin’ McCourys, of which he is a founding member. And he’s taken home five IBMAs for “Fiddle Player of the Year,” a staggering number that isn’t quite so crazy once you realize just how many bluegrass greats have turned to Carter for collaboration. In 2021, they won Bluegrass/Americana Band of the Year by the Wisconsin Area Music Industry. The Ballroom Thieves' fourth album, CLOUDS, is a song cycle born of mixed experiences and fueled by the power of imagination.

Once in a while at the end of the day, or after a show is done, he'll wheel out the piano. After the COVID-19 pandemic cost the historic venue more than a season of entertainment, this year features a strong lineup of perennial fan favorites and promising newcomers. "Dust Bowl Dream," a wistful narrative about a depression-era farmer, builds on its slow pace and vivid lyrical imagery with powerful harmonies from Sarah Jarosz and twin fiddles from Carter and fellow IBMA-winning fiddle player Bronwyn Keith-Hynes. The John Hartford tune "Six O'Clock Train" marks a slower, more ominous moment, calling in vocal harmonies and guitar from Billy Strings.

The quintet also presented an invitational concert on the prestigious Dame Myra Hess series at the Chicago Public Library, broadcast live on WFMT. In the fall of 2019, Michael Perry & The Long Beds released Long Road to You, an EP featuring five freshly-recorded songs and a spoken word piece from the Long Beds headlining stint on 2019’s Wisconsin Vinyl Collective tour. The set list will also include solid favorites, a couple fresh ones, and—between songs—easygoing humor and tangential tales arising directly from Michael Perry’s other gig as a humorist and New York Times bestselling author.

It was the small, dedicated staff who fought tooth and nail to make sure the Opera House wouldn’t become a thing of the past. Gillian Welch, an American singer and songwriter, is one of many to tag the backstage walls of the Opera House. Meanwhile, the Opera House's 111-year history is always at the forefront of Brehm's mind.

Sue Richards plays clarinet for the band and noted that ages can range from people in their 20s to people in their 80s. The Christmas concert with the Festival Choir is a highlight of their winter season. Overall, restoration work included plaster, carpet, floor lights, dressing rooms, paint, and increased accessibility for those with disabilities. State of the art sound and lighting equipment combine with the historic building features to make the Stoughton Opera House a "crown jewel" of southern Wisconsin. The beautiful space boasts Victorian and modern elements that combine for an unmatched performing arts experience. Celebrating their 35th anniversary, Cherish The Ladies has shared timeless Irish traditions and good cheer with audiences worldwide.

A native of the Fox Cities, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee before transferring to Madison, where he received his bachelor's in communication arts in 1996. His first big job after school was as education outreach director at Madison's cable access station, WYOU. After some peripheral involvement with the Opera House, in 2007 he became its director.

In addition to the $600,000+ generated by ticket sales at the Opera House each year, studies show that event-related spending by arts patrons averages nearly $20 per person in additional spending for hotels, restaurants, parking, souvenirs, refreshments, and more. It is estimated that the Opera House generates upwards of $787,000 in revenue for the businesses within town of Stoughton. The theater's original curtain still hangs over the stage, greeting Opera House audiences  with vintage advertisements for local businesses of years-gone-by. Ladysmith Black Mambazo has performed for millions of people, singing a message of peace, love and harmony.

The prolific band will release Wild as the Night and Broken at the Break of Day together on vinyl as well, giving listeners the option to hear the music as a collective body of work in a playlist-focused era. Recently signed to UK roots label the Last Music Company, the Hot Club of Cowtown continues to amass a devoted following worldwide through its one-of-a-kind versatility and virtuosity. Career highlights include the Fuji Rock Festival (Japan), Lincoln Center, the Grand Ol’ Opry, the Glastonbury Festival (UK) and all points in between. Tran has given masterclasses and workshops for the Jacobs School of Music Young Pianists program, the National Federation of Music Clubs Conference, and for teachers in the Madison area. His scholarly edition of the Chopin Barcarolle Op. 60 has been downloaded more than 3000 times and has been praised by International Chopin winner Kevin Kenner, Juilliard Professor Hung-Kuan Chen, and Van Cliburn Winner Jon Nakamatsu. Tran’s students have won prizes for piano and composition and have gone on to pursue degrees at UC Berkeley and UCLA.

I’m the musical director for John Hodgman’s Little Gray Book Lectures, and the Contributing Troubadour for Popular Science magazine. In addition to the music thing, I have been known to do a little podcasting and writing here and there. The album's namesake track, a good-time duet with longtime friend Dierks Bentley, plays on Carter's dexterity on the fiddle with an flashy solo—while also showcasing his charisma as a frontman and vocalist. "Good Things Happen," a Jamie Hartford number with vocal harmonies from Aoife O'Donovan, marks the kind of tender moment fit for a first dance or sweet serenade.

The theater's debut show was Ullie Akerstrom's comic play, The Doctor's Warm Reception. For over 50 years, the Opera House was the hub of Stoughton's arts and culture scene, hosting not only plays and musical performances, but political rallies, temperance speeches, high school graduations, and more. In the middle of the 20th century, the theater fell into ruin and was closed; however, the town did not give up hope on the historic space. In the 1980s, the city and local citizens decided to save the building and restore it to its former glory. Today, the venue is used once again for myriad events, and is a cornerstone of Stoughton's arts community. Winner of the MAMA award for best cover band and Madison Magazine’s Best Cover Band, Steely Dane is dedicated to not only faithfully reproducing the Steely Dan and Donald Fagen songbook, but to bringing an energetic live-show experience to the crowd.

The theater plays host to a wide variety of musical and theatrical performances throughout the season - rock, folk, classical, oddities, comedy...you name it. Known for sublime acoustics and an early 20th century aesthetic, don't pass on a chance to see a show or just pay a visit to the Stoughton Opera House. For 60 years, South Africa’s five-time Grammy Award winners, Ladysmith Black Mambazo has warmed the hearts of audiences worldwide with uplifting vocal harmonies, signature dance moves and charming onstage banter.

Award-winning Austin, Texas-based Hot Club of Cowtown may be the world’s most globe-trotting, effervescent string trio, who’s joyful sound blends the traditional Western swing of the 1940s American southwest with European hot jazz influences of the same era. The Hot Club of Cowtown, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2022, writes its own original songs and reinterprets everything from hoedowns to American songbook standards in its own, original style. The band is guitarist Whit Smith, fiddler Elana James, and upright bassist Zack Sapunor. The Spine Stealers are a Wisconsin-based folk band influenced by the northwood pines, 24/7 truck stop diners, heartbreak and dark lakes.

The duo formed around late night bonfires in their shared hometown during the height of the pandemic where they learned guitar together and wrote songs inspired by their experiences of heartache and nostalgia. In its early days, the theater's repertoire primarily featured plays, vaudeville reviews by traveling companies, and concerts. Since its reopening, its repertoire has consisted of plays by local companies, classical music concerts, and concerts by well-known touring musicians and bands. After several albums with ’Til Tuesday, Mann began her solo career in 1993 with the album Whatever and made a name for herself through her independent success and the founding of her record label, SuperEgo Records.

Students also expressed frustration when asked how they respond to accusations that they support Hamas. “White supremacists have been invigorated by our encampments because they see that we are a multiracial coalition composed of primarily Black, brown and Jewish students – everything that they hate." Design Week kicks off Monday, April 22, with the Digital Art and Design Showcase at the college’s Brookhaven Campus. Anyone interested in attending the Design Week events can find more information on them, including locations, dates, and times, here. While most of Design Week’s events will be held on Dallas College campuses and free to the public, the Future of Fashion Design Showcase will be a ticketed event hosted at On the Levee in the Design District. Emmanuel Tobias, the Dallas College faculty member who oversees the show, has helped in its evolution since he joined the school five years ago. Joshua Yoon, a digital UX/UI student, will be taking part in his department’s showcase.

Students began this process by researching a specific historical period to gain a full understanding of the fashion trends and construction methods of that time. They were then tasked to complete a culturally appropriate garment inspired by a specific artwork. Many students sourced inspiration from works on view at the DIA, and some students chose works featured at The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The MET).

Videos shared on social media show dozens of officers tussling with dozens of students who locked arms around the encampment. The university's police department did not immediately respond to requests for confirmation of the arrest. The ACLU sent an open letter Friday evening to American public and private universities urging them to protect free speech and academic freedom.

Kornbluth said the encampments are a "magnet" to outside agitators, are violating campus rules and are taking away resources and staff hours from other campus functions. The dayslong demonstrations have centered on the war in Gaza that was triggered by Hamas' incursion into southern Israel on Oct. 7, when about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, were killed and more than 240 people were taken hostage. Israel launched a massive military campaign against Hamas and the resulting bombardment and ground assault has killed more than 34,000 Palestinians, leveled large swaths of Gaza and caused a humanitarian crisis that's left the population on the brink of starvation. On Thursday, law enforcement in riot gear broke up a peaceful demonstration at the University of Ohio. Arrests also occurred the same day at Indiana University and the University of Minnesota. Our programs are designed specifically to highly develop your creativity, skills and knowledge, and prepare your unique brand to succeed in the Global Marketplace.

Our Industry Partnerships with global giants like Disney, Nike, and Pixar will afford students invaluable opportunities to collaborate and grow. FIDM is building on our legacy to reimagine the college as a creative business college that prepares graduates for high-level careers in tech, beauty, entertainment, and fashion. “Columbia has asked students to operate within the confined of bureaucratic red tape with no assurances of binding divestment decisions if we end the encampment,” said student negotiator Sueda Polat.

The Travis County attorney's office said all 57 arrests, which were all criminal trespassing charges, lacked probable cause. County Attorney Delia Garza, whose office handles misdemeanor cases, told the American-Statesman, part of the USA TODAY Network, on Thursday that her office agreed with defense lawyers that there were "deficiencies" with the probable cause arrest affidavits. Sprinklers around the protesters were turned on after the first round of arrests, leading some in the crowd to use buckets and tarps to block the flow of water.

Perhaps one of Palmer House’s greatest and most recognizable culinary contributions was the invention of the brownie. This year, the hotel will be celebrating the brownie’s 130th anniversary on December 8th, National Brownie Day. In 1893, Bertha Palmer tasked the Palmer House pastry chef Joseph Sehl with a dessert suitable for ladies attending the Chicago World’s Columbian Exposition. Her request was simple, a cake-like confection that could easily be transported to the fair within a boxed lunch. The result was the Palmer House Brownie, made of chocolate to comprise a fudge-like density and topped with a decadent walnut and apricot glaze.

Shortly after befriending the famous artist Claude Monet in France, Bertha began decorating the Palmer House with paintings and other pieces inspired by her French heritage. She eventually accumulated over 220 paintings, the largest collection of impressionist art outside of France, and willed them to the Art Institute of Chicago – including numerous Monets and Renoirs. They indicated their desire to mimic what happened at Columbia and elsewhere, which we are doing our best to avoid for obvious reasons." “We're here first and foremost for Palestine," said Yasin Shami, who is part of the Palestinian Youth Movement. “We will not leave until our demands are met."

Its members ensure that students receive educational programs of high quality, promote the college's unique response to community needs, and enthusiastically support the international goals of the college. Among the 36 arrested, only 15 were current undergraduate or graduate students at Ohio State, according to a check done of the university's online directory. The protesters were released on their own recognizance − without having to pay any bond amount − and are scheduled to have their first appearances in Franklin County Municipal Court early next week.

"In the past, like, during the Vietnam war when students were protesting, law enforcement used to subdue the protests and we saw how negatively that went," she said. Arizona State University police said three people were arrested Friday morning as dozens of Pro-Palestinian student protesters set up tents on the campus and called for an official statement from the university condemning the violence in Gaza. Campus police attempted to break up the encampment and arrested one person Friday, according to student media.

Another student, Teresa Jackson, candidly photographs Black men and young boys to combat stereotyping. The Arts Month events are, to Jackson, a way the school advocates for students while helping them get their work in front of key stakeholders. “I think…art is a really important part of our community and our wellbeing overall… Research shows that…[whether] you’re a consumer of art or you’re an artist, there’s the opportunity to have a positive impact,” she says. “The DIA celebrates artmaking, both past and present,” said Judith Dolkart, Deputy Director, Art, Education & Programs at the DIA. “We are thrilled to see the creativity and virtuosity that the CCS fashion students have brought to the magnificent garments inspired by the museum’s collections.

Students, faculty, and staff are united by their passion, ambition, and drive, and they share a common goal—to be the best at what they love to do and in doing so, contribute to making the world a better place for everyone. The campus environment is imbued with the spirit and student activities, study tours, and the classroom all benefit from this creative energy. The FIDM Library provides a variety of resources and services focused on meeting the unique information and research needs of the FIDM community.

And at Indiana University in Bloomington, another 23 protesters were arrested Saturday by police in riot gear, the Indiana Daily Student reported. Police also dismantled tents, poured out water and took food from the encampment, according to the paper. The action came after the school announced a policy change banning temporary structures without prior approval earlier this week.

Filmed inside the DIA, the film tells a story of works of art coming to life in the museum with the students’ meticulous designs, as their models stroll gracefully through its halls. The DIA hosted a private film screening and fireside chat with CCS’ Linda Dresner Endowed Chair in Fashion Design Aki Choklat and the DIA’s Deputy Director of Art Education and Programs, Judith Dolkart on April 18. Afterward, guests had the opportunity to see the historical costumes on dress forms and speak with the student designers in the Detroit Film Theatre's Crystal Gallery. Incarcerated political activist and journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal told USA TODAY he supports “anti-imperialist” student encampments spreading across the country to protest the war in Gaza. He has been in prison for over 40 years after being convicted for the 1981 murder of a Philadelphia police officer. The university system’s Professional Staff Congress, the union representing faculty and staff, issued a statement against police arresting protesters.

The FIDM Museum also houses the early Hollywood Costume Collection on loan from the City of Los Angeles, Department of Parks and Recreation. It presents the annual Motion Picture Costume Design exhibition at the galleries. Columbia University students and negotiators with the Columbia University Apartheid Divest group spoke to reporters Friday about the ongoing negotiations between the university and students in the encampment. They said they have made some progress in terms of their financial disclosure demands but not with divesting from financially and academically in Israel, the group’s main demand.

After that, all design-focused coursework will move under the new ASU FIDM, which is currently offering significantly fewer degree options than FIDM previously did, with promises to expand. Through valuable collaborations with industry-leading companies, students build their portfolios and apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges. Our programs are built on a foundation of cutting-edge curriculum, expert faculty, and industry integration. Online learning is becoming popular at even the oldest colleges and universities in the United States.

house of spirits

Esteban Trueba eventually moves to the Trueba house in the capital as well, although he continues to spend periods of time in Tres Marías. He becomes isolated from every member of his family except for little Alba, whom he is very fond of. Esteban runs as a senator for the Conservative Party but is nervous about whether or not he will win. Clara speaks to him, through signs, informing him that "those who have always won will win again" – this becomes his motto.

What’s in Isfahan? The city home to Iranian nuclear facilities

Blanca hides Pedro Tercero—who is on the new government’s wanted list—in the house, and Esteban, still in shock over Jaime’s death, helps Blanca and Pedro flee the country. Alba follows Blanca’s lead and begins hiding wanted revolutionaries in the house until she can help them escape the country, but Esteban knows nothing about it—or that the police have their house under surveillance. Clara and Blanca return to the big house on the corner, and Clara never speaks to Esteban again. It soon becomes clear that Blanca is pregnant, and Esteban forces her to marry Jean de Satigny to avoid public scandal. Their marriage doesn’t last long, however—Blanca leaves Jean after she discovers his pastime of photographing their male servants naked.

Magic realism, which informs so many South American stories, is treated here as a slightly embarrassing social gaffe, like passing wind. After graduating from boarding school, Blanca returns to Tres Marías and reunites with Pedro, meeting him by the river every night. Férula continues to live with the family and has become a rival to her brother for Clara’s affections. Esteban throws Férula out of the house when he catches her and Clara asleep in the same bed. One day, Pancha García appears at the family estate with her now teenaged son, Esteban García, asking his father for money.

A NIGHT OF EERIE ELEGANCE

Alba is arrested in the middle of the night and taken blindfolded to an unknown location, where she is questioned by a man whose voice she immediately recognizes as Esteban García’s. He asks her about Miguel, and when she refuses to talk, she is beaten, tortured, and raped. Weeks later, after receiving three of Alba’s fingers in the mail, Esteban goes to see Tránsito Soto. Miguel helps Esteban look for Alba and suggests Esteban go see Tránsito, who knows many important people in her line of work. Back at the big house on the corner, Esteban and Alba fix up the crumbling mansion, and Esteban suggests they write this story. After Esteban says all he has to say, he goes to Clara’s bed and dies happy and pain-free.

Friday and Saturday Night Live: Classic Music and Dinner Show

During an earlier visit to the Trueba house, García had molested Alba as a child. In pure hatred of her privileged life and eventual inheritance, García tortures Alba repeatedly, looking for information on Miguel. He rapes her, thus completing the cycle that Esteban Trueba put into motion when he raped Pancha García.

Clara then begins to speak to Esteban through signs, although she keeps her promise and never actually speaks to him again. A few years later, Clara dies peacefully and Esteban is overwhelmed with grief. Phoenix Firehouse 25 posted on Instagram saying Bodhi was the son of a firefighter named Karl and his wife, Cristy. Guests are encouraged (but not required) to dress in cocktail attire, or perhaps even themed time-period costumes! Basic PPE safety masks are allowed, but please refrain from using full face decorative masks, extensive make-up that hides your features.

The women move in, and even though Esteban doesn’t approve, he says nothing because he loves his wife. In the meantime, Esteban grows tired of the closeness of Clara and Férula’s relationship and banishes Férula from the house. In the meantime, more students of spiritualism arrive and move into the house, and Clara spends her days talking to ghosts and levitating furniture. Time passes, and the Truebas continue spending summers at Tres Marías, where Blanca falls madly in love with Pedro Tercero.

The Obscure: Guided Cocktail-Tasting Experience

There’ll be an intriguing cocktail party taking place and resident spirits focus their tale on the demise of the Vasiliev family, at the hands of the unholy ‘miracle man’, Volkov. Inspired by the real-life history of Russian holy man Rasputin and the Romanov royal family, there couldn’t be a more fitting setting than this eerily elegant period manor. Esteban offers a monetary reward for anyone who can reveal Pedro's whereabouts to him. Esteban García, unrecognized by his father, aids in helping to find Pedro. Pedro is able to escape from Esteban, who declines to give a reward to his son. Esteban later learns Blanca is pregnant with Pedro's child, and he goes to her house to falsely tell her that he murdered Pedro.

The story starts with the del Valle family, focusing upon the youngest and the oldest daughters of the family, Clara and Rosa. The youngest daughter, Clara del Valle, has paranormal powers and keeps a detailed diary of her life. Using her powers, Clara predicts that an accidental death will occur in the family. Shortly after this, Clara's sister, Rosa the Beautiful, is killed by poison intended for her father who is running for the Senate. Clara is shocked into muteness after witnessing the autopsy performed on her sister's body.

Alba resolves that she will not seek vengeance on those who have injured her, choosing to believe in the hope that one day the human cycle of hate and revenge will be broken. Alba is revealed to be the narrator of the novel, which she writes while she waits for Miguel and for the birth of her child. The grandmother of the child who lives at the home where the incident happened told KPHO that the two families involved are very good friends and were together for what was supposed to be a fun afternoon. “We would like to extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the grieving family,” said the sheriff’s office in a press release.

Clara, finally speaking again, tells Esteban that she has been waiting for him. Esteban falls madly in love with Clara, and they soon announce their engagement at a lavish party, during which Barrabás is mysteriously stabbed and dies in Clara’s lap. Severo and Nívea fear the dog’s death is a bad omen, but the wedding plans progress. Esteban, now a wealthy man, begins construction on a mansion, which soon comes to be known as the big house on the corner, and Clara invites Férula to move in with them. After their honeymoon, when they arrive at the house for the first time, Clara faints when she sees Esteban has made Barrabás made into a rug.

We’ve seen the world or significant portions thereof destroyed onscreen so often that apocalypse has become an empty cliche, nothing more than a vehicle for expensive effects and cheap thrills. Last year, House of Spirits also opened in Dallas, Texas and New York City. This year, different seasons of the event are up and running in six cities, including Seattle, Houston and Nashville, Tenn. During two-hour sessions inside the quite possibly haunted Casa Vertigo in downtown Los Angeles, patrons will be given bits and pieces of what happened that fateful evening. But to uncover the truth, they’ll have to interact with elaborately costumed characters and search for clues. They’ll also be offered information via a series of shows taking place in a variety of rooms including musical performances, magic acts, stunts performed by aerialists and acrobats and burlesque dancers.

Meanwhile, Blanca befriends one of the peasant children, Pedro Tercero, the young son of Esteban's foreman Segundo. Esteban disapproves of his daughter playing with a peasant boy and sends her to a boarding school. Esteban uses the gold he found from mining to buy a hacienda, Tres Marías. He employs natives to work as peasants on the dilapidated land, eventually turning Tres Marías into a successful estate through his use of brute force.
